Trip West 2017: Grand Canyon (R2R2R) | Day Three

February 1st, 2017

What a day! We left our camp at Cottonwood by 8 am. We only had to carry what we needed on the trail that day. We were able to leave our tent and other supplies at the camp since we would be staying there again that night. It was a weight off our shoulders!

We hiked 1.4 miles and stopped at Manzanita to fill up our water at the spigot since the faucet at Cottonwood was not turned on. My muscles took a little bit to warm up that morning. My calves were still pretty sore from the descent on the first day, but nothing too bad. I think my body just knew we had a long, difficult day ahead!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

We got a ton of snow last Saturday and I loved it!  My favorite type of snowstorm occurs on a day I don’t have to go anywhere.  Let it snow!  On Sunday, the sun came out in full force so we decided to go for a walk.  We are so grateful to live walking distance away from such a nice park.  We trudged our way through calf-deep snow in zero degrees to bask in the sights and soak in some Vitamin D.  Some of the paths had snowshoe steps for us to follow, but others we forged ourselves!  Enjoy the photos! Happy 1st Birthday, Finnegan! | Kitty Update

It was Finnegan’s 1st birthday yesterday!  We chose October 1st for his birthday and August 1st for Felix’s birthday since we didn’t know their actually birthdays.

I thought I would use his birthday as an excuse to post an update!  We have had them for about 8 months now and we love them so much!  It’s still so exciting to come home to them every day.  🙂  Continue reading “Happy 1st Birthday, Finnegan! | Kitty Update”

Meet Felix and Finnegan!

For Valentine’s Day this year, Greg bought me a variety pack of Lindt chocolates (yum!) and a pet carrier!  When I first opened it, I thought maybe it was a tent for us to go backpacking.  “Is it a tent?  A small tent?  Oh, it’s a pet carrier!  …For what?”  He told me we’re going to get a kitty!  We have wanted one for a while; it feels empty in our house without a cat because we are used to having them at our parents’ houses.  Our old apartment didn’t allow pets, but this one does.  After 7 months of living here, it was time for a pet!   Continue reading “Meet Felix and Finnegan!”

Miles

When you acquire a pet, you unfortunately have to keep in the back of your mind (unless you have a tortoise or parrot) that you will most likely outlive them.  You give them tons of snuggles and love while they are here on this Earth, but you know someday they will be gone.  It’s not something you want to think about all the time, but it’s good to remember it once in while so you don’t take the short time with them for granted.
