Here is how we celebrated this year!
As we made our Christmas lists last December, we both realized we were running low on perfume/cologne. My perfume is “Sadie” from Hollister, which isn’t made anymore. Greg has two: one that I don’t care for much and one that his mom bought him in France (meaning we can’t easily get more). We each wanted more fragrance, but didn’t know which type we liked, so we couldn’t really ask for it for Christmas. My idea for Valentine’s day was an outing to the department store in our local mall to test them and select one!
We went to Belk and circled around the makeup counters, spraying pretty much every different scent on the little papers. It was easy to tell when we didn’t like a scent, but much more difficult to discern between two (or more) that we liked. It was a fun activity to do together, especially when both partners would like to agree on the other’s scent. It was also challenging because there are such minute differences between the scents that it’s hard to rank them without getting confused.
In the end, for Greg we chose the first cologne we smelled! It is “Sauvage” by Dior. (Side note: Greg said he’s never heard of the brand Dior!) We also really liked how smooth the spray mechanism was, giving an even spritz.
We didn’t select a perfume for me at Belk (though there was an overwhelming amount of them!). Instead, we went to Hollister to see what new perfumes they’ve come out with since I got mine in 2013. They had one in a similar bottle called “Malaia” that actually smelled similar to “Sadie”. We tested a few others at Sephora in JCPenny, but ended up going back to Hollister and picking up “Malaia”. It comes with one of those old school atomizer bulbs, which is fun!

We did our fragrance shopping on Monday (President’s Day), but as for the actual holiday, we decided to just gift each other candy.
When I woke up, Greg gave me a post-it note with a scavenger hunt clue written on it! I followed the clues around our apartment and in our wooden chest I uncovered the candy Greg had bought for me. I’ve been talking about sour patch kids for a couple of months and I was so happy that he got me some! I’ve been craving them even though I’ve only had them once or twice before because my gummy vitamins remind me of them.

I repurposed the post-it notes that Greg had used for my scavenger hunt and wrote my own clues on the back! Then when Greg came home, he followed my little scavenger hunt to the candy I bought for him and hid in his sock drawer. Even though I think it’s silly marketing, this year I wanted to get him a traditional heart-shaped box of chocolates since I’ve never given him one before. I also made him a card!

For Valentine’s Day dinner, we made broccoli/goat cheese pizza – so good! It’s the only pizza we make. Then we played Overcooked 2, our favorite video game to play together. You play as cartoon-y chefs in crazy kitchens and you have to fulfill orders as fast as you can while avoiding obstacles like fireballs and tidal waves! It’s a really funny teamwork game that requires good communication!
All in all, a nice holiday!
