After our wedding on September 9, 2017, Greg and I spent three days in Woodstock, Vermont on a mini honeymoon (“mini-moon”). It was nice to have a little getaway to decompress from the wedding and have some time before we had to prepare to move to Virginia! We decided on a short, local trip because Greg didn’t have any vacation days left for 2017 and we were also too busy with the actual wedding to spend any time coordinating an elaborate vacation. We are planning to take a longer trip in 2018.
We had beautiful weather and recorded our adventures on our video camera. I put them together in a video, but I thought I should also write a blog post with photos to go along with it. Enjoy!

We drove from Braintree, MA to Woodstock, VT. We got the keys to our hotel room at The Shire Woodstock and drove right to the spa at The Woodstock Inn & Resort where we enjoyed an 80 minute couples massage! It was amazing and much needed! After the massage, you have access to the spa facilities for the rest of the day! So we hung out in the hot tub, sauna, and even the outdoor pool! It was that warm in September! They had little granola snacks and fun specialty waters that we snacked on while enjoying the soothing spa music. Finally, we each showered and went to the hotel. We had dinner at The Prince and the Pauper.

In the morning, we headed to the New England Falconry for an hour session handling a Lanner Falcon, a Harris Hawk, and a Barn Owl! I love birds of prey, and barn owls are my favorite type of bird! It ended up being a private session because no one else had signed up for our time slot. Pretty lucky! It was amazing to see the birds up close.

We ate lunch at the Simon Pearce restaurant: “The Mill.” Simon Pearce is a glassmaker from Ireland. The mill contains a glassmaking studio, shop, and restaurant right next to the Ottauquechee River with a dam that powered the mill. The products were nice, but we didn’t buy anything ($$!).

We came back to the main town center of Woodstock and looked at the cute shops, art galleries, and the library. Greg bought me a pewter maple leaf necklace that I was admiring at Danforth Pewter. We got ice cream and sat in the sun, then played bocce ball at the hotel. For dinner, we went to Richardson’s Tavern at the Woodstock Inn & Resort. It had a nice cabin-y feel that we both like.

Back at the hotel, we read through all of the messages that our wedding guests wrote in our photo book! Such sweet memories to treasure.

After we packed up and checked out of our hotel, we walked around town on our way to the Billings Farm & Museum.

We took a tour of the farm house, then headed back to town and ate lunch at Mon Vert Cafe. Then we walked back to the farm for a wagon ride around the property and a visit with the cows (Jersey), chickens, and sheep.

We drove home and spent the evening opening the lovely cards and gifts we received at our wedding. We feel so grateful for all of the kind words and generosity and we plan to pay it forward to others throughout our lives.
We are still undecided on the location of our 2018 honeymoon, most likely somewhere a plane ride away. I will detail that experience here as well!
Thanks for reading!
