Harry Potter Question # 7 | What would your patronus be?

Today I am going to answer the seventh question in this series: “What would your patronus be?”

6. What would your patronus be?

This is a tricky question because I love animals.  My first instinct on questions like this is to rattle off my favorite animals in hopes that one of them would be my true patronus.

“What do you think your patrnonus would be?”

“Oooh!  A deer!  No, a fox!  Tiger!  Owl!  Raven!  Wolf!  Bunny!”

If you don’t know, (in the Harry Potter world) a patronus is a magical guardian/positive energy force that is conjured by the patronus charm.  This defensive charm serves to protect against dementors – dark creatures that feed upon human happiness and have the terrifying ability to consume a person’s soul.  The patronus charm is difficult to produce – one must focus on their happiest memory while uttering the incantation “Expecto Patronum” in order for their patronus to form a tangible shape.  A weaker memory will yield an incorporeal patronus, which resembles a cloud of vapor or smoke.  A strong, happy memory along with proper skill in magic will yield a corporeal patronus that takes the shape of a bright white, translucent animal.  (For more information on patronuses visit http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Patronus_Charm.  I could spend hours on that website if I’m not careful!)

The animal form that your patronus takes differs from person to person and reflects the individual’s personality.  It’s also said that it takes the shape of the animal with whom you share the deepest affinity.  While you can guess what you think your patronus might be, you can never know until you successfully conjure it.

Here’s the part where I have to be honest with myself.  For example, I admire tigers and wolves.  But does my personality really match that of a predator or hunter?  As much as I love foxes, am I cunning?  When it comes down to it, I think I  would probably a bunny or a deer.  First of all, I think bunnies and deer are adorable.  Little brown bunnies and white-tailed deer.  I love to stumble across them while running or hiking on trails or watch them make their way through my backyard.  I also think my personality reflects that of a prey animal – I’m pretty paranoid about things.  I’m always on the alert for danger; I’m not usually a risk taker.  I’m not a hunter on the prowl.  As much as I wish I could answer that my patronus would be a really exciting exotic animal, that’s just not me!

In September of 2016,  Pottermore.com finally came out with the official Patrnous Quiz!  I was a little nervous taking it since they ask you to go with your instincts and choose between the two options they provide for each question as quickly as possible.  I am very indecisive when it comes to most things, so quizzes like this are difficult for me!

My result?  Siberian cat.

I had never heard of it before, but a quick Google search revealed that it is basically an adorable breed of long-haired cat.  I love cats and I have long hair!  So I can work with that.  🙂  The fact that it’s a Siberian cat makes sense for me since I live in the northeast United States where we get a lot of snow and it’s very cold.  In terms of personality, cats like to cuddle and they value their sleep, which definitely fits with my lifestyle.

Have you taken the Pottermore Patronus Quiz?  Was your result what you predicted?
