For Christmas 2016, Greg’s gift to me was a trip of a lifetime! Inside a small box were a pair of tickets to see Celine Dion’s show in Vegas and a map of trails in the Grand Canyon. It was a trip I had been dreaming about for years!
I’ve been to the Grand Canyon before, but I’ve always wanted to go there with Greg since he’s never seen it. I wanted to be there when he experienced the awe and wonder. And Celine has been my idol for many years. She and Disney are part of the reason why I don’t know many popular songs from the 90’s. An item on my bucket list has always been to see her perform live. She has been performing in Vegas for several years, so I dreamed up a trip where Greg and I head out west to see Celine and the Grand Canyon. Greg turned that dream into a reality!
He even took it a step further and planned a backpacking trip INTO the Grand Canyon. I didn’t even know you could do that! When I visited several years ago, I just remember looking over the edge of a cliff on the rim. I knew people could ride mules down into the canyon, but it never occurred to me that there might be actual hiking trails – and it turns out there are a lot of them!
When I opened Greg’s gift on Christmas morning and realized what it was, I cried tears of joy. He knows me so well.
I’ve never been surprised with a vacation before and it was even more exciting because we were leaving January 27th! That only left about a month for me to get myself ready – but Greg had taken care of most of the planning.
Also – we vlogged our entire trip! Click the links for each day to watch the videos!
Las Vegas Day 1: We flew to Las Vegas, had dinner and a milkshake at Holsteins, explored the hotels, and watched the fountains at the Bellagio.

Las Vegas Day 2: We went to a shooting range and a wax museum for the first time, then saw Celine Dion’s show at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace. It was truly a dream come true and I was wiping tears off my face throughout the entire show. We ate dinner at Bobby Flay’s “Mesa” grill and played the penny slots a few times (just so we could say that we gambled in Vegas). We cashed out ahead!

Las Vegas Day 3: We visited my aunt, uncle, and a few of my cousins; stopped at the Hoover Dam; and drove to the Grand Canyon.
