Welcome, welcome, welcome *Effie Trinket voice* …. to my blog!
My first blog was called RebeccaESnow.com because I wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted my focus to be. When I was explaining this dilemma to my brother, he reminded me about the story I had written when I was younger (and still never finished) called “The No-Titled Story”. It takes up several composition notebooks and it’s essentially a rambling plot line about one character that just changed as I wrote and I never really went back to restructure anything. I had a vague plot idea when I started it, but it morphed over time – which is why I never gave it a title! Some day I should go through those notebooks to see if I have any salvageable material in there…
After almost a year with that blog I decided to switch hosting sites and figured it was the perfect opportunity to change my domain name. I wanted something that was slightly nerdy and I eventually came up with the idea of Flourish and Blogs! It’s a play off the name of a store in Diagon Alley called “Flourish & Blotts”. It’s a bookstore in which Harry Potter purchases the books he needs each year for his classes at Hogwarts. I decided on the name because I felt it was a perfect way to mix my love of Harry Potter, books, blogging, and I like that the word flourish means to thrive. In my life, I strive to not merely plod along and get by, but to live in faith and flourish.

I am pumped to start this blog because I love to write and I love a lot of things. So I am going to write about a lot of things! My brain is like a web browser with seven thousand tabs open at once. There is audio coming from somewhere… I switch back and forth between tabs while my current page is loading and I never really get much effective thinking done! Over the years I’ve discovered that the best way for me to channel my thoughts is to write it down. Preferably in a notebook. A really beat-up notebook. (side note: I am obsessed with new notebooks with whimsical and inspiring covers, but I rarely write in them because I am paralyzed at the prospect of writing something dull on such beautiful paper! I end up saving these nice notebooks for a time when I have something more “meaningful” to write, like the next Lord of the Rings trilogy. But anything you write is meaningful, even an abysmal attempt at dialogue between a warrior and her owl. I need to get over this fear and use those nice notebooks!) A few months ago, I helped nudge my writer’s block by buying an old fashioned composition notebook. Which, by the way, was surprisingly hard to find in Staples! I felt free to write anything I wanted because I didn’t feel like I was ruining a nice journal. Similarly, this blog will serve as a channel for my thoughts and hopefully help to jump-start and improve my writing. I can feel it working its magic as I write this post! *cue Hedwig’s Theme*
